Kidney Diseases are increasingly becoming common day by day due to changes in lifestyle, diet and increasing mental stress. According to statistics every 10th person worldwide is suffering from any kind of kidney disease. From kidney stones to kidney infection and from acute kidney disease to chronic kidney disease and chronic kidney failure there are a number of kidney diseases that are impacting human life. At Aksa Ayurveda we provide you an alternate way to treat and manage your kidney disease using principles of Ayurveda, lifestyle changes and dietary changes that bring a significant change in your life .

Common kidney Diseases and their Symptoms

1. Kidney Shrinkage: Also called Atrophic kidney means that the  kidney is smaller than the normal size. THis condition  may happen  due to the following conditions that is  low blood supply to the kidney, loss of nephrons, chronic infection , blockage of the kidney or may be congenital called kidney hypoplasia . Ayurveda manages further deterioration of the kidney and helps to restore the functioning of the kidney.

2. Kidney Stone Disease: Also known as Renal calculi, nephrolithiasis. About 12% of the total population of India suffers from stone . High intensity radiating lower back pain and blood in urine are the most common symptoms of kidney stones. There are around 5 types of kidney stone that can form in kidney, the most common of them is calcium oxalate stone, which can be correlated with vataj ashmari in ayurveda and can be managed using ayurvedic herbs that reduce the size and flush out stone from the kidney in limited time.

3. Increased Level of Creatinine: Creatinine is a nitrogenous waste that is produced after protein breakdown . Normally the creatinine flushed out in urine regularly making the level of creatinine in blood normal. But when there is degeneration of kidney that is chronic kidney disease the creatinine excretion does not happen properly and the level in blood rises that can hamper the functioning of different organs and many complications may occur . Increase in the levels of creatinine directly suggest kidney diseases. Improving kidney function may reduce creatinine level in the blood, ayurveda medication and diet may help to improve kidney function.

4. Proteinuria: Usually protein does not come out in urine in normal people. But when there are degenerative changes in the kidney or in kidney glomerulus the kidney starts to filter out the protein from blood into the urine this is called proteinuria. This may be the first symptom of chronic kidney disease that can be seen in urine, the urine with protein shows foamy or frothy urination with lots of unsettled bubbles. Ayurvedic Treatment for proteinuria helps in management of kidney functioning that will eventually control protein release in urine.

5. Kidney Failure: Also called end stage renal disease in which kidney functioning almost stops and the patient requires dialysis or kidney transplant as per the need. The GFR of the kidney comes down to less than 15 ml/min/1.73m2, there are many causes that can lead your kidney to this problem most common are diabetes and hypertension. Here ayurveda can help in managing complications of kidney failure, further degradation of kidney functioning can be managed using kidney failure ayurvedic treatment.

6. Acute Kidney Disease or Acute Kidney Injury: Sudden loss of kidney function is known as acute kidney disease or acute kidney injury. Reduce blood flow due to dehydration, vomiting, blood loss during delivery or in an accident, overuse of NSAIDs , auto-immune conditions, and hydronephrosis are the main causes of AKI. Ayurvedic management in acute kidney disease can help recover your kidney functioning by treating the root cause of the disease in less time.

7. Chronic Kidney Disease: A condition where the kidney is damaged and not functioning properly for more than 3 months or the eGFR is less than 60 ml/in/1.72m2. This condition can develop due to many underlying reasons like Hypertension or Diabetes and the basic functions of kidney like removing nitrogenous wastes ( creatinine, urea, uric acid ), fluid balance, electrolyte balance disturbs that increases the level of unwanted substances in the blood, that eventually leads to many complications in the body. Ayurvedic management for chronic kidney diseases (CKD) can become an alternate way to treat this condition by reducing the damage of the kidney and increasing the functions.

8. Nephrotic Syndrome: A clinical syndrome defined by massive proteinuria (greater than 40 mg/m^2 per hour) responsible for hypoalbuminemia (less than 30 g/L), with resulting hyperlipidemia, edema, and various complications. It is caused by increased permeability through the damaged basement membrane in the renal glomerulus. Abnormality in glomerular permeability may be primary with a disease-specific to the kidneys or secondary to congenital infections, diabetes, systemic lupus erythematosus, neoplasia, or certain drug use. Nephrotic syndrome can be managed by Ayurvedic treatment effectively, the herbal formulation in ayurveda treats the disease from the root that will provide long lasting results.

9. Kidney Detox: Our kidney worlds 24 hours to manage our blood composition, due to changes in diet and lifestyle the burden on kidney increasing day by day making kidney more susceptible to diseases, kidney Detox can be done to prevent any damage to the kidney and for improving kidney function, Ayurvedic herbs like punarnava, varuna etc and their formulations can help to improve kidney function and detox the kidney.

10. Kidney Swelling: It is a symptom of kidney disease that may develop due to many reasons like kidney infection, renal calculi obstruction, hydronephrosis and many more. Management of the primary disease.

11. IgA Nephropathy: Immunoglobulin A (IgA) nephropathy, also known as Berger disease, is one of the leading causes of glomerulonephritis and renal failure. This disease is a prevalent form of glomerulonephritis characterized by the deposition of IgA in the glomerular basement membrane. Immune-mediated damage to the basement membrane results in proteinuria and renal insufficiency. Immunomodulatory Herbal formulation in Ayurveda may help you to manage and treat IgA nephropathy effectively.

12. Glomerulonephritis: Inflammation or swelling  in the glomerulus of the kidney due to hypertension, diabetes, nephropathy etc. Glomerulonephritis can show symptoms like hematuria, proteinuria or may hamper the proper functioning of the kidney that can lead to kidney failure. Glomerulonephritis treatment in Ayurveda is very helpful in maintaining glomerulus swelling making kidney function better and reducing kidney damage.

13. Kidney Infection ( pyelonephritis ): Inflammation in the kidney due to infection is one the main cause of kidney disease that is called Acute pyelonephritis, that usually spreads due to complications of ascending urinary tract infection. This condition may convert into chronic pyelonephritis in repeated and untreated acute pyelonephritis conditions. Kidney infection in chronic conditions is very hard to treat, ayurvedic management helps to regain the functioning of the kidney and elimination of bacteria from the urinary tract.

14. Polycystic Kidney Disease:  It is a genetic disorder in which one or multiple cysts develop on one or both kidneys, usually it shows no harm to the kidney but may develop larger during lifespan and start diminishing the function of kidney. Ayurveda emphasizes reducing the size of cyst and increasing the functions of the kidney for the treatment of polycystic kidney disease (PKD).

15. Foamy Urine: This condition may be physiological if very small amount of bubbles during urination forms that subside in very less time , if the number of urine bubbles after urination increases and does not settled with time that it may be a sign of proteinuria that is protein in urine, that shows your kidney is damaging progressively. Early detection is the key for management of chronic kidney disease. Here ayurvedic management helps to decrease the progression of kidney disease and improve kidney function.

16. Hydroureteronephrosis: A condition in which urine builds up in the kidney, ureter or bladder due to obstruction in the urinary system . It may be due to calculi or urinary tract infection. If the condition is not treated on time the disease may convert into chronic kidney disease . Ayurvedic treatment of Hydroureteronephrosis helps to counter the root cause of the disease whether renal calculi or renal infection.
