Couplings are a form of power transmitter used as connecting components between two shafts. Gear couplings are the couplings used for high power, high torque applications. As compared to universal joints, can tolerate more torque but produce more vibration. It consists of two hubs consist of inner and outer teeth together with a one or two piece sleeve. Types of gear couplings
There are different types of gear couplings which are used according to their usage and function different cars.
Full Gear Couplings: These are the double dog forged steel couplings that are used in almost all major industrial applications. They have a large capacity of the final float so compensate for both angular misalignment and parallel shaft misalignment.

Floating shaft assemblies: These couplings are used for long distance shaft connections. They offer a good solution for powering electrical equipment with a motor placed at clearance without space to install the connecting shaft supports.
Slip joints – are used in places where axial movement is required with a consideration also for the thermal expansion of the shaft.
Shear Pin Couplings: In addition to other gear couplings, some industries also use the shear pin couplings for applications that become clogged or are frequently overloaded. They help avoid damage to the machine by shutting down as soon as the load becomes dangerously high.
Disconnect Couplings: They are also quite similar to shear pin couplings in terms of this they can also be disconnected as required by the job. They can be used for both high-speed and for as well as medium applications.
Flanged Gear Couplings: These gear couplings include short, surrounded sleeves from perpendicular wings.
Continuous Sleeve Gear Couplings: In these couplings, the ends of the shaft are joined together and even leaned against each other before being all encased in a sleeve. These sleeves are done mainly of copper but in some cases also of nylon.
There are different types of gear couplings available in the market. What’s important is that the right coupling should be chosen for the right application. If you start using for example a semi-rigid semi-flexible gear coupling 6cm for an application that may require a fully rigid coupling, it will affect the performance of both the machine and the coupling.
